Default Engine Swap for 96 Prelude S

Hey, I have the 96 Honda Prelude S with a 5 speed and the F22. I had gotten the car recently, hearing nothing but great things about preludes, and I was wondering if the F22 is naturally that much of a slug or is it mine thats just whipped and done. Anyways I was wondering if someone could give me a ruff Idea of what materialistic things i would need for a complete and successful swap with the F22 for an H22 for my car, for ex : (Motor, Axels? Tranny? What Wiring? Computer?)

The S was lowest class of Prelude...So it is your car and then engine as well...lol....How much money do you have that you are willing to spend?

For your car, all you need is a 92-96 H22A and the ecu. If you decided to go with either 97-01 H22A, 97-01 H22A-S, or 97-01 F20B you'll need the engine, ECU and OBD1 to OBD2 wiring jumper harness.

So wait.. alls your saying is that i onlyy need a 92-96 honda prelude H22A and the ECU and then just drop it in? lol I love how the other guy said this would end in tradgity. why do you think so? ohh yeah and im not spending crazy money.. I think one of my good friends has a wrecked prelude with the h22a in it just layin around. crunched in the rear right so i just need to ask him what year it is, body style and if i dont need the axels and everything ill just swap the motors for him to better myself haha.

I never said it was goin to end in tragedy....there are 2 other straight up swaps that are cheaper than the H22...You can put in an F22B DOHC or you can swap in the H23....Thats why i asked how much money you had...but since your friend has one then go for that.

hotlude - you have a 96. your car is the first year of obdII. which means that a 92-95 motor will be A LOT harder to use. your best bet is a 96+ motor, because there will be A LOT LESS wiring to deal with. there is more than enough information on how to do this swap all over the internet. use the search feature. and you can use your stock tranny if you want to, but it will make your car SLOOOOOOWWWWW. the gearing is way too high for an h22.

The long gearing is good for turbo though... supposidly. And yes, the F22 is slow as hell. I hate mine, but it's new so I can't justify swapping it. Oh yeah, 2 more engines that you can look into shoving into the lude, H22a type S and my personal favorite, the H23 VTEC (H23 block, H22 type S head)

the h22a can be yours for about 2 grand plus change, and a few busted knuckles. i did the h23a swap on mine, it cost me about 1,100 for the engine, and then there was all the things that you'll want to change while the engine is out, such as timing belt ( change this, it will save allot of headaches later) water pump, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, wires, etc... you get the idea. even though these JDM engines are low milage , you don't know how long they have been sitting, or what might have found its way into the engine. piece of mind is priceless, and for the money you spend now, you'll be glad you did later. i wound up with about 2,200 in my swap, clutch and pressure plate included, plus i had the flywheel resurfaced. the h23a is a damn good engine, if you take care of it, and don't try to hot rod it to much, it will last a very long time.

mybluelude, did you get the h23 tranny too? honestly, i think an h23 tranny on an f22 might be the best bang for buck if you want quicker and cheap.
