Default My Worst Nightmare

I bought my '97 Prelude my senior year and was totally stoked. After driving it for awhile I felt very confident of it's abilities against other four-bangers. While racing a chump in a Cavalier who wouldn't leave me alone about how fast his car I over-revved my car pretty bad on the take off. I drove hard the rest of the strip and nothin appeared to be wrong. On the way home it felt like it didn't have as much power so I down shifted and at about 6grand my car made a weird whizzing sound and as I slowed down a consistent tick/knock started. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing or what it could be. The weird thing about the whole deal was it didn't start right after the over-rev just about 30 minutes later on the drive home. Anyones imput would be appreciated.

You may have bent the valves. Please tell me the Cavalier didn't beat you.

I went from 8 grand in third back into 2nd while racing some hillbilly in a ranger with a 5.0, needless to say I still beat him. Slightly there after I hear a ticking from under the valve cover. You could have a bent valve but Ill bet my top dollar its a jam nut that you adjust the valve lashe. It either came loose and ticked or come out completely and went down an oil galley into the oil pan. take your valve cover off and look. a new nut if about 3 dollars at a honda dealer, but you cant find fine thread metric any where else, at least not in my town. If your dont know how to adjust the valve lash bring it in because the piston has to be at tdc for the cylinder to set it and if you dont the cam lobe will wear down from rubbing on the rocker to hard. A screen before the oil pump will assure that the nut will chill in your oil pan saftley until you remove the oil pan and get it out, ass long as it doesnt get through the crank baffleding

check you oil. if you were running low you might have damaged a main or rod bearing. internal engine damage makes wierd noises-- ticking thumping knocking grinding--. check compression, may have burnt a valve or fried a ring... how many miles on the car? high mileage engines build up carbon on rings and carbon actually seals the piston. high reving can blow the carbon out of the rings and ruin the compression in that cyl.
