i have removed the clock in the sub-instrucment panel, and i found no short circuit, what goes wrong ?

I spoke with my brother and he said it counted up like that when it was really hot out and would eventually quit. His gas and temp gauges quit (mine eventually did too ) and he replaced the clock with them, so I don't know of a cure. I have a spare clock, I'll test and see if it still works and if it does I'll hook you up.

thanks a lot 2legit2quit, please do not take the trouble to test your spare clock, because i stay at the opposite side of the earth (Malaysia in asia pacific).

i suspect one of the capacitor in the circuit board faulty causing short circuit. i am gonna replace the capacitor, i will post the outcome.

O.K. tell me how it works out. I think your your theory is probably right. When gas and temp gauges quit on mine and my brothers ludes there was little burnt spots on the gauges and the clock. Here are some pics of what I'm talking about.

Mine also having little burnt spots on the gauges and the clock. These burnt spots look original to me, i am not sure though.

here are my pics of gauges and the clock

**notice one of the green connector on the clock is at opposite location, cause my car is a right hand drive.

i have replaced the capacitor, the writing on the capacitor is F104, this can be easily obtained from any electronic shop.

the capacitor i replaced with is printed "C6" on the board, i suspect this capacitor faulty because it connects from minutes adjustment button to the ground. (according to the repair manual "Service Manual 92-96_lude.pdf" Page 23-218 & 23-219 )

if the capacitor is at fault and becomes a short circuit allowing current flows from the ground to the minutes button, the effect is just like you keep pressing the minutes button. (i am not an electronic guy, this is my own "common sense" explaintion, so use it at your own risk)

so far my clock has been tested 1 hour night drive, and 0.5 hour driving under the sun, it has been working fine. i will post more outcome after further testing.

if the hours counts up constantly, you should replace the capacitor "C5".

Hmmm, I don't think those spots are there from the factory because when I got our replacements there wasn't any. Thanks for showing the clock solution yaaiyaai.

Mike, I don't know what causes it, but I noticed when it was really hot the gauges would be very dim or flash on and off until the car cooled off. Also, when mine finally quit for good I could smell a burning smell. My brothers didn't work when he bought the car so I don't know how his bit the dust.
