Need A Brief Lesson
so you can pretty much say that i know absolutly nothing about cars. my b\f picked out my first one and now has adopted it as his own for a project car. it was a prelude. and i know abosolutly nothing about it... honestly i don't even know what year it is... so have some questions... just so i have a little knowledge about cars.. if you guys would be so kind
What years did they make preludes?
what pakages did they come in?
are they ALL sticks?
whats the differences in engines?
and just as a comparision, where does a prelude stand in the food chain of hondas? (he was super excited i areed to buy this car...)

first off, search>you
next:
1) 79-01; 1st Gen = 79-81, 2nd Gen = 82-87, 3rd Gen = 88-91, 4th Gen = 92-96, 5th Gen = 97-01 (These are the U.S. years)
2) Different for every dealership, many combos/upgrades are available
3) No
4) Depends on the generation. 3rd Gen (which is far enough back to help I hope) has 3 different engines, which I believe are all B series; 4th Gen has F22 (S), H23 (Si), and H22 (VTEC); all 5th Gens come with H22.
5) Depends on who you ask. Great car though.

Dump your boyfriend if he breaks out any of the following:
- Altezza lights (You may not know what I mean, but these are taillights that are chromed out, or otherwise not stock and not cool)
- Fart muffler (If he doesn't replace the entire piping from the exhaust manifold back, it's just a fart can)
- Stickers, mainly stickers that lie (See: "Prelude Type-R", "DOHC VTEC" when no DOHC VTEC is present, or any "VTEC" when no VTEC is present)

Any Prelude made from 1988 and up is a really nice car. I forget which years, but the early 1990's models offered 4 wheel steering (rare - doubt yours has it).
Here's how you can tell model years appart:
If your Prelude has flip up headlights, it's pre-1992. If they are fixed, it's from 92 on up.
1992-96 Models have a blue instrument cluster with the tach and speed in the shape of half moons. The '97-01 models (my body style
) have soft orange instruments and full size tach and speedo.
In 1993, the first VTEC motor appeared in a Prelude. The 93-96 VTEC models are probably the most sought after Preludes at this time, because they were a higher priced model, and not all Preludes had it untill 1997. So, there were 3 levels for 1993-96 - base, Si, and VTEC.
The 97-01 body style is probably the most luxurious Prelude ever made. The seat fabric, interior trim, and solid and quiet body structure could make some think it belonged in Acura's lineup, not Honda's (believe me, it's the best car with an H on the hood in these years).
Preludes, as with all Hondas, come from the factory as one trim level or another (base, Si, VTEC), and any options were dealer installed accessories. In any year, they pretty much were equiped with the usual features standard (cruise, tilt, pwr. windows, locks, mirrors, A/C). All Si and VTEC models have a moonroof.
Anything specific you would like to know, please ask. I've done all the work on my Prelude myself, including the belt change, so I've got some decent knowlege about the car.

^pretty good info from 5hift as usual
ill leave it at that except to comment that the 3rd gen B series motors are not compatible with any other B series, mainly the b16/b17/b18/b20 series found in civics/integras/CRV
edit:
fastball ur too fast buddy, VTEC trim was available in 93 not 94

I keep thinking VTEC came out in '94, not '93.

Glad to see you approve Boom
, as for Kenton's comments  , and Flip, don't say "I'm not stupid" when your first post says "so you can pretty much say that i know absolutly nothing about cars. my b\f picked out my first one and now has adopted it as his own for a project car.", the fact that your bf picked out YOUR car and is using it for HIS project car makes you pretty stupid in my book. Don't bitch about this comment either, Kenton was just trying to help.
