Actually I think it's down right retarded. A lude is not a race car, not a drag car, and definitely not made to be turbo'd. If it was, Honda would have done it from the factory. Turbos on a lude are unreliable, you've got to tune them all the time and for it to work halfway right you will need engine management that will be a easy 600-1400 bucks. You will need this for all motor too but at least once it's tuned you wont have to screw with it much. All you're going to do is spin the tires off and break axles. Ludes aren't made for straight line speed although they can hang with lot's of big boys if done right! To have a prelude run right on a turbo you will have 4500-6000 to sleeve, build, balance, and blueprint the motor to run forged pistons. A good turbo setup will run you anywhere from 2000-3500 for top of the line equipment! Engine management anywhere from 600-1400 bucks, and upgraded axles at least 400 probably more. That's close to ten grand and if you get a nice 5th gen you're looking anywhere from 8000-16,000 grand. Why not just buy a MR2 turbo or supra if you want a better drag car! If you turbo your h22 with stock internals it's going to blow up no questions asked! One time with boost spike and you're done. To do it right would be $$$$ but could work but that's not my cup of tea. Does this make sense or am I an idiot?
I find it ironic that you say that the preludes aren't worth the time. Then you put 6 grand into your motor. It doesn't really matter. you can make any car fast with enogh money. However when you start boosting @ 20+ lbs f/e you are going to have to pay to play. in regards to boosting on stock internals....I have a friend with a 4th gen and he has been boosting 8lbs for 2 years now and has been doing his tuning with a apexi afc so yeah they can be reliable but tuning is key in any F/I application.

soooo if I just ran a small boost 4-6 psi maybe, it would be fine with the stock internals. How many horses would that add too?

That is correct. Ludes, and pretty much all other Hondas have an open deck motor. It has tunnels with coolant running through the block. If you run more than8 PSI for any amount of time it WILL crack your block. If it was meant to be turbod it would have a solid deck cast Iron, not aluminum, block like a DSM 4g63. Plus you should show a little honda pride, they thrive on making vast amounts of all motor small liter horse power. And another thing Ludes have 10:1 compression, which is rather high to be boosting so Youd need new pistons also on top of having to have it sleeved to prevent a big hole in you block.

Its just not worth it for the price of lower compression forged pistons and an exhuast manifold ALONE would be the price of higher compression pistons and a set of cams and youd get the same horse power as what you would if you boosted it, which would cost alot more once you get all you need. If I were you, I wouldnt turbo it cause its not worth it and it has to be done right. It obvious you dont know a whole lot about turbos cause you asked if it needs a certain exhuast setup. Exhuast is a big major part of how a turbo works, and yes I know theres more to it than that also. Which is jsut the other thing. I know you couldnt install one yourself and youd never find many people at any honda dealer inclined enough to install a trubo cause its alot more than just a turbo, theres intercooler lots of piping vaccumm lines, to prevent spiking youd need a boost controller and a WHOLE lot more. Not trying to put anyone down or anything, but Id just hate to see someone dump 4 grand into a trubo and be out a motor cause it wasnt sleeved or done right.

Can't be said any better can it? I didn't really mean the prelude didn't have the potential to be turbo'd but seriously, why? I choose to go all motor with high compression just for the simple fact I don't ever want to be without my car for a whole summer again and I can't afford 6 thousand dollar engine builds two or three times so I want to extract what I can from a built motor and if I want to go faster go back to nitrous since the motor will be so much stronger. Nitrous loves high compression when tuned on a wideband. Can you imagine what kind of numbers could be put up with a fully built high compression motor and a 600-800 dollar nitrous kit. Way less than a built motor and a turbo is going to cost! I think I could see an honest 350 hp if not more with a nice big direct port kit? If my motor goes what it did on a 75 shot dry I'll be totally happy. I trapped at over 102 mph in the 1/4 with the 75 shot. To have a motor with no power adders that will pull those times up in a 3000 lb car works for me. It would be kick ass because it seriously felt fast with 13.90's at 102 on the 75!

Like I said earlier tuning is key when producing high hp numbers. You won't have to build your motor time and time again if You tune it correctly. I would much rather have a turbo application then nitrous. but to each has its own. Just for the simple fact. I would honestly love to see your car when it is finally finished.

iono, im running 9.0 comp pistons and my block is sleeved by RS..was checked for cracks and everything, but i am also running 5 pounds of boost...and my turbo kicks in quite early at like 2800 rpm's...i get a lot of low end power...i was thinking of jumping it to 8 or 9...im thinking that it is safe, but the problem is that my car is already eating gas like crazy...and i dont want to waste anymore gas...since im a college student with a 7.25 per hour job...i also think i am running rich...but i think imma go get me a 8 pound spring for my wastegate and then find a place to dyno it..and figure out of i am running rich...

Also, I've got an SH, and everyone says that they can't be turbo'd (I can't find a turbo kit either...big surprize...) Has anyone found a way to do some sort of custom job for an SH turbo, or is it just impossible to turbo one?
I HAVE found the Jackson Racing supercharger for the Prelude (SH?), is that an option for me?
Ton of questions, i know, but help me out...
my compression is 8:5:1

whats up i have a turbo kit for a sh . my car will be done as of next week. evryone trust me on this if turboing a non turbo car it is a crap load of money. ive spent if not more then 20k on my car preping my car for this moment...10k of it was the motor alone so..... . i know alot of you have different opinoins on doing this and that with that and this but its an experience that ive enjoyed over the past year or so.there too many pro's and cons for either application just some are cheaper, a hell of alot cheaper. as for turbo kits for sh there are some drag, fmax, rev hard or just go custom. hopefully with all the stuff i have i will be putting out big numbers at the wheel but we shall see when the time comes in a week or so.............i actually have a drag set up for a sh but i went custom with a bigger turbo and intercooler ,tec.there is alot to be done when building for a turbo car ask and i shall tell ...... later
