Default question about my cat

me and my friend were talking about this, but i need a second opinion. do u guys think i should hollow out my catalytic converter. My friend did it and it was a lil louder and had a lil more power. Also i read that there can be as much as an extra 5 hp added. But i also read the disadvantage being that the car will tend to backfire around 3200-3500 rpm and with hard acceleration the engine will cut out and recover and go past 3200-3500. But to make this short, im replacing my exhaust system neways after winter time. so what do u guys think? should i do it jus for the hell of it.

It sounds "better", but doesn't give any gains at all. Your butt dyno may think ur faster, but where-ever u read u can get 5hp is bullshit.

just hollowing your cat can actually lose power cause air then has to swirl around in there and it acts as a baffle. Unless of course you are to put a straight pipe through the center of it. I dont recomend it though mainly cause its VERY illegal for the little bit of gain it would be. Just buy a test pipe or a QUALITY high flo cat.
