Some basic problems with my 93 Lude
Hi,
1. Wheels/sterring vibrate when braking at high speed !!! i know tyres are not balanced...could it be that ???
2. My acceleration and stuff is not too good !!! will an oil change help as that hasnt been done for a year the previous ...shd i go for a tuneup ?? whats involved in that ??
3. My 4ws light sometimes turns on at startup and doesnt turn off until i turn off the car and turn it back on
thanks for all the left

change the oil immediately
fram or bosch oil filters are fine, dont get ac delco
run 10w30 or 10w40, non-synthetic
if the car has been sitting for a while your rotors are probably shot, definitely gonna want to fix the brakes. new rotors/calipers/pads...can run from:
reman calipers for front (rockauto.com) - $50x2
cheapest rotors (autostar/USA ind.) - $25x2
^the calipers come loaded with pads also
so you could probably replace ALL the major components in your front brakes for about $150 if you do the labor. chiltons/haynes manual is about $15.
as far as the 4ws light, let me dig up my helms and ill post the diagnostic procedure for it.

so u reocken its the brakes rather than the unbalanced tyres ???
what abt tuning ?? do i need it ?? what do they do in tuning anyway ?? my idle and stuff is fine ! but its not going as it shd be !!!
thanks

yeah, i'd get it in for just the standard mileage tune-up, so they can take care of your timing belt & everything, too. and your rotors are definately what's causing the shaking upon braking.
it's probably both the tires and the brakes. Go get a brake job, tires balanced, and a wheel alignment just to be sure. It's most likely the brake rotors. If the problem was solely the unbalanced tires, it would shake all the time, not just at high speeds. Definetely get an oil change. Old oil is BAD. Don't know about the 4ws light, my lude doesn't have it. I wish it did. See how the car runs after all that.
