5th Gen Lude has best four cylinder engine?
nope not at all rsx type s, rsx type r(integra type r where it's made, integra type r, s2000, those are just the hondas and there are plenty of turbod fours. wrx engines, sr20det, the saab turbod fours, srt-4 engine, theres a whole bunch taht do better
N/A Engines right??, NOT TURBO, i don't think is "THE BEST", but one of the bests for sure, there's some Engines from the integras Type "r"' and type "s" but let's don't forget the prelude TYPE "S" tough (220HP?), there's the S2K engine wich comes with 240 HP and 2.2l in it's very last version (2004). I think that the prelude in the late 90's yes was indeed one of the best N/A engines .. and still one of the Best engines availables .. even in this years.

All also depends the car, you don't want a the engine of a integra Type "r" on a prelude, preludes are heavier they need more displascement and a extra torque, all depends what you want, preludes are more classy for sure! LOL.
Many many engines do better, but of course with turbos, supercharges etc (many engines are from new cars, i honestly hope that those engines are reliable like the eternal H series) .. i still preffer a prelude N/A than a neon or even a cooper supercharged,

it all depends on what your requirements are for "best."
the H22 is a pretty good engine, but from a modification standpoint, the FRM makes it difficult to upgrade the bottom end without sleeving. the stock block can handle 8psi of boost before falling apart. It's kind of heavy compared to a b-series. Other engines, like the SR20det or the WRX plant yield 40 hp gains on simple mods. b18c5's have crazy hp/liter ratios.
OR
the h22 is a torquey high hp motor that is very capable esp in lighter cars. etc etc. it all depends on your point of view. but for closer to stock h22's it's a reliable, powerful engine, and that deserves alot of credit.

the h22a is definitely one of the top 4 cylinder NA motors in existence.
dont forget that it was introduced in 1992 with the JDM 4th gen lude, 1993 for the US. So it had a sucessful production run from 93-01 in the USDM market. there are differences between the 4th and 5th gen h22aX but that is beside the point, mostly OBD and sensors.
it makes about 200HP outta a 2.2 liter, not bad at all for a 2.2 liter NA
typeS is making 220 outta a 2.2 Liter on 11-1 CR.

here's my opinion. I'm an old school guy. I've got an 89 lude si with the original b20 in it. I'm approaching 200k and it still runs like it's brand new. It's one of the most underated engines in my opinion. It has excellent durability and has some kick to it too. But that's just my opinion.

I'm at 105k on my Prelude, and other than the routine belts, adjustments, and brakes and tires, the car is flawless. No leaks, smooth as silk (but when VTEC kicks in it get a little growl), and everything still works like it should.
I can easily see hitting 200k. Just take care of it and it will take care of you..... and every time you meet someone who is unassuming about cars, you will shock the hell out of them after you take them for a spin when you tell them there's a 4 cylinder engine with no forced induction under the hood.

I have a Dvd (Best Motoring) where the japanesse dudes (drivers) compare VTEC engines they test pretty much LOTS of 4cyl engines, (integras etc.. and even a old school japanesse car with a s2K engine, too bad did't go well) then the JUN LEMON PRELUDE came and not only made the best time but also the very experienced driver (i think is Tsuchiya) said that he was hoping the H22 engine with the jun mods on a S2K after a great performance, here's the link of the lemon "JUN" prelude:
