Honestly I think the age of free music is coming to an end, after the collapse of the free Napster 5yrs ago its all been downhill.

I disagree. There are still a bunch of P2P programs out there. Maybe in like 5 years it will go away from the mainstream, but people will still do it.

P2P programs are coming to a hault, that's for sure.

Napster died
Audiogalaxy soon after
Kazaa fought a long fight, but lost
WinMX kicked the bucket
Ares is next.

If the media is digital, there will be a away. Messageboards are dedicated to downloads. Torrents are HUGE. Even well written Google searches will provide MP3 downloads.

honestly, i dont think the days of free music are over by a long shot.

it wil always be a cat and mouse game, there is no way to stop it. just like anything that became illegal in the past, there was that instant strike of fear when they first started coming down (when napster closed) but slowly people are finding new ways of DLing music illegally and are becoming comfortable with the fact that they are nearly all uncatchable except for a select unlucky few.

i dont want to, but i'll liken the downloading of free music to the use of weed. honestly, theres no stopping it now, theres only making it harder to do, and then in return from the public harder to catch.

for right now smaller communitys like SLSK provide the best protection. and the ammount of people successfully downloading free music grows everyday.

Free mp3's will always be an option, it'll just get harder and harder to find them. I used to laugh at Napster charges but now i'm actually thinking about it, how sad lol.

charging for the music isnt bad, but the fact that you are left with limited usage that bugs me. non-standard formats, advanced DRM and other things of that nature are what push me away.

illegal music is just more versitile, you have control over anything and everything. to me it's like paying to get a hassle with little to no alternatives.

the best thing i've seen so far are "buy it, burn it, return it" campaigns. you buy a new or used CD and then burn it to your computer, then return it to the same store and get a percentage of your money back.

it's legal, the music is 100% versitile and if big corporations and the RIAA get involved it could become where they get a percentage of the profits and everyone's happy.

I've always had a problem finding GOOD quality MP3's for free. My friend who pays for a client (forget the name) does not have this problem. It's not just that free mp3's are getting harder to find its also the quality. I'm not even gonna get into how long I have to wait in line for an mp3 these days...
