Anyways, the new issue of Motortrend has a short tidbit on the new 3. They say pricing should remain around $13,500-$18,500 and that the 2.3L will put out 180hp! After seeing the website I'm going to say this is dead-wrong, but who knows. Interesting though that they would write that.

I know the current 2.3L in the 6 makes 160hp. So I'm wondering why they put "targeted 160hp" on the website.

I heard we are supposed to have 2 engine choices, the 2.0L and the 2.3L. If the 2.0L already puts out 150hp, then I would assume the 2.3L would put out at least 170hp to have a gap in performance. This engine makes 170hp in Japan, but has less hp here due to emissions standards.
Oddly enough, the mazdaUSA website says the "targeted" hp is 160hp, whatever that means.

Maybe it's the quasi-bronze color, but the rear tail lamps don't really agree with the car.
I'd wager it would look a lot better in silver, or something more traditional.
I love the interior of both this and the sedan, and it's finally nice to see HID's trickling down into the low-$20,000 segment.

I read a Euro-car magazine that reviewed the pre-production model 3 against the upcoming Astra and Golf. They said a "go-fast" version would not be available any time soon, but who knows. I hope that Mazda will rush the next Mazdaspeed to market soon and not sit around til a mid-cycle refresh. While the 2.3L engine can handle 280hp turbo, I think they'd probably keep it under 220hp so not to eat into the 6's sales (yeah they're not competitors, but some people are really dumb) and to keep a power/performance gap between the MS6. But I think its safe to say a MS6 will come out before the MS3.
