since the focus will essentially be the same car i can't get myself to consider something touched by ford...it does look nice but the 3 is out of consideration (family safety comes first)

Front looks really nice...interior is well done. My problem is the side profile. Here is why it looks odd:
The deck lid is insanely short.
It looks like it got hit in the back end by a semi. Also, the C-Pillar is pretty fat for a small sedan.
One question: Is Mazda ****ing with Acura? First the 6 looks like the TSX, now the family resemblance in Mazdas (6-like with a pentagon grille) closely resembles the family resemblance in Acuras.

As the lone Mazda fan, I'd like to say I'm pretty impressed. It has a sharp exterior that looks sporty and psuedo-luxurious, with a great interior to match. Early indications are that pricing should remain the same, so its going to be a pretty good value. The family resemblance to the 6 and RX-8 is apparent, but the 3 still has its own original character. We have a thread on the S40 and everyone seems to agree that the new Volvo also looks "squished". I'll admit the proportions look weird from the pictures, but I'm sure it will look better in person.

i just hate ford as a company and anything they touch i won't ever consider for my family as we all know how much ford places profit over its customers safety
prob now is that ford is raiding all of mazdas platforms and engines outside the rx8 and ford will probably steal that also...that just pushes me away from mazda

Actually I just checked and the MazdaUSA website has been updated with a ton more info on the upcoming 3. Actually, I'm pretty excited about this car b/c it looks good, will have great driving dynamices like its predecessor, and it will be a good value. It's too bad I already have too many cars sitting around.
Jaje, I'm glad to see that there's another Mazda fan out there. I'm not thrilled that Ford is basically robbing Mazda blind. A ton of Ford's next gen cars will use Mazda derived platforms, engines, and other parts, but it can't be helped. Ford's not a great company, but I think Mazda is. So bottom line is that for the most part, the Mazda 3 is a Mazda and not a Ford.
