It wont be that cheap. I'd say aroudn $24K for the 120i and $28K for the 125i.

To protect the MINI market. Also these cars should have many more standard features than the MINI and nearly as many as the lowest 3 series.

I agree, you don't really want to have two cars having the same starting price. make the 125i start @ $25k and fully optioned out at $30k would be fine.

For those who don't know, basically everything is an option on a BMW. They have packages and options out the ying-yang. Anyways, I think a 120i could be priced at 23k and a 125i at 26k base. I know the exec stated there would be no inline-fours, but for this car to really be a volume car for BMW I see a cheaper model in the works, to at least better compete with say the Jetta/Golf. Anyways, the next 3-series is moving a bit upmarket I think in terms of luxury and performance so I see a 325i moving to 29k or so.

It should be obvious I'm exaggerating. But seriously, with few exceptions, who else charges you $600 for "metallic paint" that come on 7 out of the 10 colors they offer? And usually as you move up in trim level more equipment and options become standard, but even a $34k 330i has sunroof, xenons, sport options, foglights, wood trim, etc... as options. I'm just pointing out that a "cheap" BMW has the potential to become very expensive very quickly when you start adding in options.

The only engines I can see them using are the existing 2.0L (they have it in Canada but the US doesn't get it) and the 2.5L they have now. I don't think they'd develop an all new engine for their lowest car, and I can't see them stepping on the new 3-serie's toes with something too powerful.
Its actually a 2.2L...

Reread it. You'll note I said that there were exceptions, additional companies that also adhere to BMW's pricing scheme.
