so then why criticize them for their pricing structure. since it has not changed in the past two decades.

I'd rather you say the car is ugly (which the cgi pics are)

Look, I'm not criticizing their pricing structure. My one, and ONLY, point was that the 1-series will not be a cheap BMW in any shape or form. It's fairly obvious, but I guess some people didn't get it.

It's "obviousy" to me, I'm still not reaching you, which is fine. I'm not going to argue semantics here, but like I said before, my one and ONLY point was that this will not be a cheap BMW. Cheaper? Sure. No one said it will be a "cheap" car. But some 16 yr. old kid reading this board thinking he'll get into a new Beemer at 23k sticker is kidding himself. No-option BMW's are rarer than the Dodo bird. (To those who can't detect sarcasm, I'm exaggerating again)

Spied: First look at BMW 1 Series, caught testing in Sweden

By AUTOWEEK

BMW was set to reveal to the world its 1 Series at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, but we hear that debut has been pushed back to the Paris show in October. Regardless of its official unveiling, we have the first-ever on-road look at the little Bimmer, courtesy of our intrepid spy shooter who spotted this 1 Series undergoing winter tests in Sweden.

The car is slated for launch late this year with the five-door, shown here, first out of the blocks. A three-door will follow six months after that. An interesting feature seen in these pictures is the small rear hatch, making it look sportier than the Volkswagen Golf, one of its main competitors.

Power in Europe includes a variety of gas and diesel engines; there are no announcements yet on U.S. specs. Expect prices to be about 20 percent less than a 3 Series, putting it in the $25,000 neighborhood. Can a 2 Series be far behind?

Well, I guess they're trying to attract younger, less financially flexible customers..... For the 25k or so those are going to sell for I'd get a late model 3 series or previous generation 5 series. I don't know what they're thinking in Bavaria.
