Traditionally the Supra was always a 2+2 (my dad had an '84 when I was a little kid) while the Z was a 2-seater. I guess that the Z did gain a back seat once the 280ZX 2+2 came out, and in their final iterations both were big, heavy twin turbo things with similar sticker prices though; so maybe the new Supra will become a 2-seater like the Z has become.

When it comes out I'm sure it'll be similar in execution to the 350Z (i.e. based off a corporate small rwd luxo sedan platform) regardless of whether or not it sprouts a vestigal back seat.

I :dunno: ..
I don't trust sketches. :eh:
I trust shiny shit at an auto show on a turntable.

Put me down as undecided... I'm this >< close to giving up on Toyota, but not quite yet.

Im thinking the same thing, that Toyota will have their own "fm" platform and use it on like the next IS (hopefully IS Coupe to compete with G35 Coupe) and Supra. And then maybe that HPX to compete with the FX35. Ya know. And use that 3.3L V6 as much as Nissan uses the VQ.

N/A V6. I'm sorry I thought Toyota was actually interested in selling the car. Who's going to buy it without a Turbo? Supra has always been I6 not V. I sure hope they change the name because this is NOT a Supra.

reason for this is companies now want to keep variations between cars in different companies as little as possible

japans smog and emissions control has just been kicked in full blown and getting cars to pass there is increasingly difficult
that is why last year i believe is one of the last years you see turbo versions of 6-8 cylinder cars

cars in japan like the altezzas, wrx's and evo's are all turboed 4 cylinders....

even the Z, rx-8 are N/A now, with few chances a turboed edition will come out

that is why the new GTR is supposed to be NA as well

to me, that sketch resembles a saturn ion and corvette in the front. the pointiness is pretty extreme, and i'm sure it will never reach that level in a production model. the car overall doesn't look bad, but again, its just a sketch. we've all seen how different the final version can come out to be. i'm betting the production model will share a very similar appearence to the current toyota design trends, eg camry, matrix, new prius, corolla, etc etc etc, crap crap crap...
