Unlocking the car on the driver's side trips it. I love the car. But according to the relative who gave it to me, the best fix is very expensive. I don't care if I have to pull a fuse or cut a wire, as long as it only disables the alarm. I just want to be able to lock it and not have to use the passenger side to open it. Thanks.

This is a common problem as these get older. the cheapest way to fix it is to disable it by "tricking" it into thinking the hood is open all the time. To do this you cut both wires to the hood latch/hood switch and butt connect them together "looping them" into a closed circuit. this tells the control unit that the hood is open all the time. then it will disable to prevent false alarms.
