Default suggestions for speakers

ok i posted in the audio forum but it doesn't get much traffic. so i blew a stock speaker in the front of my 96 gsr and figure i should replace it with a nice setup.

i was looking into component speakers and the guy at crutchfield suggested infinity reference 6002 SI 6.5" shallow mount. i looked at them and they are only 150 watts. would that sound good even with an aftermarket head unit?

i wanted the infinity kappas but the guy said i would have a problem with the depth in the front. but i could get them in the back.

this might be dumb but should i j/ not hook up the back speakers and j/ get new components in the front. eventually im gonna get some subs so i dont know if that effects anything. b/c i could have the head unit going to the two tweeters and two speakers. or should i j/ go with the stock setup so the tweeters are going off the front speakers.

i dont know much about car audio so i hope you guys understand what i mean. i j/ want to know some of the setups you guys have so i can make sure what i get will fit.

my goal is a nice sounding system but i dont want to go out there and drop 2k on a complete setup...know what i mean.

sorry this is so long but i need some help. im sick of hearing the blown speaker. thanks in advance

The integra front speakers are pretty shallow. However there are a lot of members that just cut out the back plastic housing. That should give ~1" depth, which will let you fit most speakers. Infinity, MB Quartz, Boston Acoustics are all good brands

i have infinity reference 5.25" components(ref5000cs) up front. i had to cut the back out of the plastic basket, but that took 5 minutes with my dremel and a cut-off wheel. i have an alpine 9813 headunit and those things sing! with the 6.5's, you would have to remove the plastic basket and then you would have clearance problems when ever you rolled down the window.

check out this deal; $64 off msrp(shipped): http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=inf5000cs

so i should only do 5.25? or should i just stick with the 6.5 shallow mount so i dont have to do any cutting.

i know other people have different speakers in their cars...j/ post 'em up real quick and tell me if you would recommend them or not..thanks

i personally have a solid jbl system im my 95 se

the 5 1/4 compoents in the front were no problem the tweeter mount was already in the door and the mounting plate just had to be turned backwars and it fit fine...

the 5 1/4's in the back just drill 2 new holes and drop 'em in

the only bitch was the head unit (kenwood excelon) and the fact that you need a dash mount kit... theres a nice size blood stain now under my center consol...

all you need is time...

I hear you ska32198 man those are a pain, my knuckles were scraped almost to the bone. But for my setup i have 6 1/2 audiobahns in front and 6x9's in back. for front i just removed the oem speaker holders (best thing i can think of to call them lol its 2 am what do u expect) then used the front plastic covers for audiobahns 6 1/2's and flipped it and drilled holes in the metal for screws, then stuck the audiobahns in. (had to put them in at angle but finally got it)works great. Or you can cut wood holders. (add some centimeters for extra space onto the 6 1/2 inches though)

www.adireaudio.com - the site may look lame but these are some of the best subs around. Try www.caraudioforum.com for advice on audio components as well.

I put in my system over a year ago and have loved it. Got a panasonic head unit, an adire audio shiva (12" 675W sub), a set of cadence 6.5" components (120W each) up front, a US Acoustics 4x85W amp, and a 1cf sealed encloser from www.speakerhole.com

This was all for around $650 including tax and shipping.

I installed everything myself. Had to make custom wooden holder in place of the old plastic speake basket to install the front speakers, but they do not have any clearance problems with the windows.

Hope this helps.

P.S: The quality is great, I can turn it up to painful volumes and I have yet to hear it distort. I played Prodigy - Smack My Bitch up at pretty high volume to show my friend the system and when it was done he looked at me and said "my heart feels funny". I guess it's got some decent bass

ok i j/ went out and switched the right front and back speakers and they just had the little clips. are the aftermarket speakers the same?

also, they only look like 5.25" speakers...when u get the 6.5, do you have to drill new holes or does it come with the mounting braket that will fix it.

and if i needed to cut the plastic behind it for the speaker to fit...would i need to get the "waterproof foam baffles" so water wouldn't mess up the speaker.

right now im leaning towards the infinity kappa 60.5 6.5" component speakers for the front and then prob some other infinity's in the back. or would it sound just as good if i got the 5.25's so i dont have problems with rolling down the window?
