Im gonna do mine in a few weeks also. Im at about 140K, (it was changed last at 73K).

this time in addition to belt, im gonna also change the water pump and alternator while im at it. Ive had a trouble free car up until now, (hydro tranny bearings gone), so some preventative maintance. for a couple of $100, its peace of mind

honda says timming is every 88,000 miles and usually that costs just over $200

I'd say the average cost I've seen at a private mechanic is $350 to $450. Avg. dealer price is about $500 to $650. Why? The last dealer I talked to said "Because we use only premium Honda-brand parts." ...which, apparently, contain crushed diamonds or something, to add in that extra expense....

Actually I think it's jade that they use:thumbup: . When you change the timing belt buy a Honda belt I also would adjust the valves too because you'll have the valve cover off because you'll have to pin the cams on zero with dowls pins while you are installing the belt so everything is on zero/tdc. And I would change the waterpump, and ps, alt and ac belts while you're down there (I personally use Goodyear Gatorbacks very durable belts and they grip the pullys better)and if you got the funds get an underdrive pully set you've got everything apart anyways. If you are going to do it yourself you'll save all that money to buy the upgraded stuff vs paying a mechanic to put in a belt and maybe adjust the valves for the amount they will charge!

For underdrive pullys go to unorthodox racing website and check out their closeout/bargan section you might be suprised what you might find. I paid $100. for my underdrive crank pully and it was nos (new old stock) and they wanted to get rid of it. They changed the look of their stuff reciently (added holes to some pullys) so the item you see on their site might not look like the item you get.

I went to the stealership for the belt and the local foreign autoparts store for the waterpump.
