Default problem w/playstation in car

whats up everyone...I have a ps1 hooked up in my teg, problem is when the car is running and i have the ps1 going there is a high pitch coming from the speakers, probably alternator whine, is there any way to shield the power cable of the psone to make the noise go away?

its the poor connections that is picking up the stuff from your engine. i think its picking up the alternator. the sound changes when you hit the throttle right?

i suggest redoing the grounds.

ive heard of a group loop isolator, just never for a PS application. but i wouldnt know.

i used to have engine noise too, but it turns out it was my electronic crossover "amplifying" the whining/buzzing/annoying sounds.

make a new ground from your battery to the frame, as well as valve cover and see if that helps.

You're powering the ps somehow, so check whatever's powering it as well...

Definately a grounding problem. During one of my installs (5th or 6th car-- same headunit) I toasted something in my headunit, I managed to run a hot wire into the ground lead from the radio, whoops! (I still don't disconnect my battery tho )
Anyway it made the loudest, godawful, alternater whine ever. I had to reground the headunit to the chassis directly to shut it up. Uh, not real sure why I told you this, but hey, I wanted to share.
Anyway its a grounding issue fo sho!

Hey, if you want to do something kinda cool, you can listen to "hotspots" of whine: take an old tape player, hit play with no tape in it, turn the volume all the way up, and listen on the headphones as you move the tape player to various parts of the car. :naughty:
