VTEC Sound?!?

Default VTEC Sound?!?

i've heard vtec kick in on preludes and civic si's, but my gsr vtec is very low for some reason!?! i have exhaust and CAI which should hype up the vtec noise but it doesn't. im thinking its my CAI b/c its not name brand?

check your oil... it's normal for vtec engines to burn a quart of oil in 3000 miles.. if you haven't changed your oil in awhile or drive your car really hard , you might be low on oil and as a safety precaution , your engine will shut off the vtec

Hrm.

Did it used to be louder before? Or did you slap on the CAI/exhaust and expect more? If it's the latter I wouldn't worry about it.

2001 gsr. gonna check oil. also would ram intake be louder then cold air?

also i dont have the manual that came with the car. so those 2 dots on the dipstick, is it suppose to be inbetween or closest to the top?

it should be closest to the top one.. the top one means full. the bottom one means your low!

Yes but it's fairly useless for power if your engine is near stock.
If you want loud, get a hi-flo cat or even a test pipe and don't bother with a muffler.

Not sure why people are preoccupied with noise these days...

i have a full cat. i not procupied with noise, i love to hear the vtec kik in though. h22's with CAI screams when the vtech kiks in. but mine is a slight boost throughout from 5,000rpm

The B18C's are supposed to scream a bit louder than the H22's...odd. Are you past any scheduled maintenance?

Also, you should be hearing a definite boost in noise from 6,000+ rpm. Not sure if I should explain why (you may want to look up exactly what happens on B18C1s versus B18C5s when the big cam switches) but try driving your car again and see if it screams from 6,000+ rpm.
