VTEC Sound?!?
The R stock sounded great. I added the Icebox (not the short ram with it yet) and it WAILS.
The reason why the R is louder (other than soundproofing not being there) is the single runner intake manifold. VTEC kicks at 5700 or 5900, depending on throttle position. It's VERY obvious. It actually makes something rattle after the icebox.
The GSRs, you only really hear it after the secondaries open up. Stock, at least.

Hey Turbonium try to reset the ECU and disconnect the Neg batt cable and leave it for about 5-10 min and let it sit. Before you do that if you have a stock stereo make sure you have the code for it. That can be a quick fix. Instead of spending the money and having it done by a Mech and get charged $60 or more to check it. I was having a similar problem. So check the oil and disconnect the Neg batt terminal. Let me know how it went.
A Civic SI with intake is going to sound louder than a GS-R with Intake.
As for the Type-R with intake my friend has one with AEM CAI, and thats all he has, and one quite night we were pumping gas in our cars, he finished earlier than me and went home, his place is 1.5 miles from the gas station and i heard him go all the way from the gas station to his house.

I know the dual-runner intake manifold is power-robbing (or so everyone says:dunno
, but damn... I love telling people to listen for the little "pop" it makes...
vvvvrrrrrrrrrrr*pop*rrrWHRRRRRRRR
