Just to toss my opinion in here. I picked the LS because I figured that it would be cheaper to mod and a good car for a novice such as myself. I want to go turbo, and eventually I will. I'm not looking for a monster, just something that handles better, and runs faster than stock. I have no need for 10 second 1/4 passes(for now). I would say that the LS would be better for a novice to start with, and a GSR would be better for someone that's more comfortable boosting a car than say, myself.

they either improve on the heads with the (SI) or make the VTEC.
lol, first you make the VTEC, than you get the respect, than you love the women.

btw.. i've had a friend who boosts around 11psi (same as newgsrdriver).. he's had this done for about 2 1/2 years... his car runs just as great as the day it was completed... oh and yes.. it's a GS-R.....

Deludedteg,
Thanks for the advice man but i think i can handle it. I've been driving for about 3 years now in my grand am. It puts out about 160 hp so its not too huge of a jump. I really dont think an LS is an option for me anymore to be honest. This forum has helped me to realize that. In regards to my level of experiance. I am an autotech student so i have access to expert advice and tools should i say (**** myself and my car). If i plan on doing anything im not gonna be stupid about it. If i go turbo im not worried about the LS being more user friendly because like i said before if it is tuned properly there should not be any problems. This is what i would like to do. I'd like to first of all get my gsr with high milage. Say 80-120k. My next class i get to lift out any engine of my choosing, completely rebuild it and put it back in the car. I can also install turbos under the supervision of my shop teachers so this sounds promising. What i'd like to do is jump from the gsr engine to a b18c5 and turbo that. I know its a lil more risky but once again its safe if properly tuned. This is just an idea assuming i dont experiance any more financial problems. What do you guys think?

Ben

naw, dont bother with the b18c5. too expensive, & when you rebuild the motor, you'll be replacing almost everything that differentiates a type-r motor from a gsr motor.

So your saying i should just upgrade the internals on a gsr engine and up the compression or what?

What does everyone else think about the posibility of a Type R motor. Jspec actually ends up being cheaper right?

b18c spec-r motor has a compression of 11:1...not exactly optimal for a street turbo setup. it'll make hella power with little boost...but the margin of error is SOOO tiny when tuning.

my bud has a boosted usdm ITR. it put down 282 whp at 6.5 psi. & thats at 5800' altitude. but he melted a piston & he was running rich as hell.

if i were in your shoes, i'd build a whatever i found cheapest out of these motors:
b18c spec-r
b18c
b18c1
b18c5

the b18c1 or b18c will most likely be cheapest tho, & thats what i personally would go with.
Then get 9:1 pistons, crower rods, & a blockguard or sleeves. 9:1 seems to be an excellent medium between running a good amount of boost, getting low end power, & giving you a larger margin of error.
