I have the ACT HDSS, it's wonderful, as for exedy and clutchmasters I can't give you any insight I haven't tried either.

I have an Exedy and I put in a new type-R flywheel with it. I'm happy with it and the price was right, about $ 390 for all parts. 2 years and 30k no problems.

Unless you are FI, I don't think anything more is worth it, and depending on the disc material you choose, it may not last as long.

Yeah I found the ACT HDSS on groupbuycenter.com...its regularly 502.00 plus shipping on their website, but its 15% off (with free shipping on anything over 400)...that makes it only 426.70!! This is for the ACT HDSS kit by the way..actually one of the more expensive disc/pp combinations that ACT makes. So I will be getting this.

The critical question I am thinking of now is...if I want a lightened flywheel, now would be the time to do it. I can get a Fidenza for 285 shipped...but thats almost as much as a clutch! Which makes me think if it is even worth the money or if I could put that money and get a header or put it towards an exhaust...

So the question now is...would a lightenend flywheel, lets say an 8.8 lb one (I think the Fidenza Prolite), benefit me horsepower/acceleration wise better than putting my money towards bolt-ons?? And are there any common problems associated with lightened flywheels? Thanks guys...I'd greatly appreciate any comments asap as I am getting ready to put my car in the shop and start ordering parts...

Yes, now is the time. Even if you chose not to lighten, you should have it resurfaced. With a lightened flywheel, you lose low end torque, but it revs up faster. That is why I went with the type-R flywheel ($170). It is lighter, maybe 12 lbs, I can't remember, but not too light. IMO 8.8 lbs is too light. I remember people saying they had difficulty going up hills with a super light flywheel.

4 or 5 years ago there were alot of discussions and posted experiences about this. Maybe you can find more info in the archives if they go back that far.

I dont like Exedy. They may be "OEM" but Ive seen one too many go bad in a ridiculously short amount of time. Stay away from Exedy, especially if you plan on putting any kind of decent power to the ground.

For most street setups including mild boost, the HDSS is the way to go IMO. ACT stands behind their products, and they produce quality parts.

I ended up getting the XDSS kit. I wanted the HDSS but it wasn't in stock and they said they'd send the XDSS for the same price ($50.00 more). It's very stiff but this is mostly due to the fact that I have a cable clutch and not a hydro. But with the Xtreme Pressure Plate, the clutch grabs like a mother****er The only problem I had was my clutch cable snapping but this was due to the increased tension from the new clutch plus it was a 13 year old OEM nylon cable. With a new steel one my car runs great. I've had no problems since. I would highly recommend the HDSS or the XDSS clutch kits from ACT.
