Default I Dont Hear The Vtec !!!

I just bought a GS-R last week, and prior to this , I have never driven a vehicle with vtec. From what I understand, you are supposed to hear a distinguishable difference in engine sound when you hit certain rpm levels. Well I don't hear any difference ! When I bring it up to 7000 rpm, for example, the car goes extremely fast, but all I hear is the normal rise of rpms; nothing that would lead me to believe that the vtec is engaging. Am I missing something ? Is the sound supposed to be noticeable ? What could be wrong ?? (By the way, my car has 143,000 miles).

On a stock GSR, there isn't much to be heard.

4400 is where VTEC takes place, but you won't hear it. After the secondary intake runners open, I think at 5750 or 6200, it's a bit noiser. If you get a Skunk2 intake manifold, or a Type-R manifold, the single runner design would probably make a decent amount of noise. Not to mention gain you a few ponies up top.

Haha, nice try bucko. I'm not changing the manifold and even if I do get a new exhaust, I'm keeping the stock parts.

the secondaries opening are a lot more noticeable than when vtec engages. It's normal for the gsr to be hardly noticeable.

ok , I think Im getting the picture here....vtec is not really something you notice, its more of an internal process within the engine.....

On a stock GS-R (stock air intake, exhaust), you really won't be able to hear a change...especially with all that excessive road/tire noise.
