Alright, a friend of mine who seems rather knowldegable told me he could help me cut my springs so my car would be lowered. He said my ride quality wouldn't be compromised much, and that when i decided to put 17's on instead of the factories it would be no trouble. What do you guys think? is cutting springs a bad idea? is it a perfectly logical way to have a nice looking a feeling ride while saving money? just gimmie some info.
Cut springs are a big no no. When you lower your car you decrease the distance the suspension is able to travel to absorb bumps. If you just remove coils from the springs you already have, you not only make them shorter but also softer. So they have less time to absorb the impact and less ability to do so. Your typical set of lowering springs is stiffer than stock to make up for the decreased suspension travel. If you want to lower your car on and do it right, get a set of quality lowering springs and some new shocks.
Also I'm not a fan of 17's on Integras but that is a separate issue.

Do not cut your springs EVER. MrFatBooty pretty much summed up all that needed to be said but with your 17's you'll bottom out like crazy (especially with passengers). It's likely you'll blow out your stock shocks in no time. Also, it will likely be impossible to service your car (wheel alignment and whatnot).
If you absolutely cannot stand the monstertruck appearance of your car, buy some quality lowering springs and save up for aftermarket shocks (your stock ones will blow out in a matter of months)

I also agree... DON'T CUT THOSE SPRINGS! Buy some lowered springs and shocks, but if you really want to do it right, buy some adjustable coil overs. That way if you decide to put 17's (but I wouldn't know why you would want to, just my opinion
) and your car is to low, you can just raise it up without worrying about buying another set of springs.
JG/Edelbrock has a nice set that handle killer but still ride like a car not a race car...

springs are designed with so many coils, when you remove some of those coils, you fuk with the whole geometry of the spring, basically make it useless. dont do it.
H&Rs only cost around $150.

I personally like the look of 17's...but I'm having mad rubbing issues as of late. Performance definitely takes a huge hit with larger wheels period. My wheels weigh less than my stock gsr blades (14 lbs vs 16 lbs) and with 40-series tires my overall rolling diameter is less = lower gearing, but I'm still accelerating noticeably slower.

I mean no disrespect to your friend... however, I would question just how "knowledgeable" he really is, if he thinks cutting your springs would be ok.
Although it may seem like your going the cheaper route by cutting springs you already have, you may want to factor in all the other problems that cut springs will likely cause you. If you think about it from that point-of-view, you'll quickly realize, it's not much a cheap route.
If you really like your car, do it right and get some quality aftermarket springs. You wouldn't buy your would-be wife a CZ instead of a diamond, would you? Why would you want to do that to your car, which you love more than her anyways... You do, don't you???
