I agree with what has been said...Also a good reason not to cut your springs is that later you may decide you want the stock height back..Just save your springs when you put the new ones on.

back in high school i cut the springs on my teg.

but i also ground the tops of em flat then so they'd still sit in the stock perch flatly. Felt exaclty like stock, but a lil lower. I only did like a 1.3-1.5" drop tho.
My car doesnt bounce like crazy or anything how other people say. Rides just like stock. I think its all cuz I ground the tops flat, when most people just stick the cut spring in there and it doesnt sit level, and then wiggles around in the top housing where it sits.

It was nice lowering my car in afternoon for $10 of renting a spring compressor and using a blow torch to cut off like 2 loops and grinding it flat.
But i'd recommend just saving up $100-150 for some good lowering springs. Their so cheap these days and it will make your car ride better than stock, which is one of the things you really want to get with new springs. And it'll be way too soft if you put on 17's with the cut springs, itll rub and bottom out too much.
I was still on stock 15" GSR rims, so it wasnt that bad for me, but I've been able to get it to rub a couple times while doin autoX on those springs.

cutting springs sucks because the ride is horrible, so i wouldn't suggest doing it.
