I put the fluid in, but when it sits in neutral, it makes a tapping noise. When I engage the clutch, the tapping stops.Any thoughts to what it might be...???

Did you replace the clutch, throwout bearing and pilot bearing?

Sounds like you need to drop that tranny back out, make sure the flywheel and pressure plate bots are torqued to spec. Be sure to use a clutch alignment tool.

Thanks for the reply...I was afraid of that. I replaced the throwout bearing when the old tranny was in. I thought that was the original problem. What and where is the pilot berring? I'm gonna go for inspection today, then an alignment then I can tear it apart again. I thought taht is was a cliche' to say "It's always something," but taht seems to be true...:hahano:

The pilot bearing is directly behind the flywheel, on the tip of the crankshaft. Its hard to say exactly what your problem is, I would take it apart and look. Maybe somebody else has better advice for you...

It is always something... If your going to drop the tranny again, its probably a good idea to buy a pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch, and pressure plate so you don't have to go through this again. All of that should cost you between $200-$300.

Good luck!

$ was the reason why I didn't put a clutch in the last time...I hope everything holds up until I get it inspected
