Some interesting reading on max piston speed
.... I recall from years ago that you want to keep max piston speed under 4500 fps for best reliability. There's something magical about that number .... so best not to rev the living daylights out of the engine if you want it to last forever. You want to increase BMEP to increase power.... bore it, make it breathe better, and/or force-feed it.

you have to think of the engine package as a whole. if everything doesnt work together properly you've just wasted a bunch of money.
Even at 9000 rpm, the mean piston speed of a B18C1 is around 2100 fps. But you are right, revving the motor out past stock redline puts a lot more stress on the internals and reliability will decline exponentially. The tensile forces of high revs are a lot more damaging than the compressive forces of boost...up to a certain point.
I'm a 1200 Civic guy at heart... We used to stroke them to 1335cc using GL1000 motorcycle pistons (domed for ~10.5:1 compression)...and a 1300 crank and rods.... I still have a full build at home in the box as a matter of fact... complete with a brand new set of Mikuni 36PHH sidedraft carbs built specificalli for American Honda's GT-3 Civic
But I digress. The problem was that stroker would throw rods when you ran it to ten grand... not horribly reliable but made 150+ HP... fun fun fun !!!!!At least Honda has pretty well balanced internals out of the box... try revving anythign made by G(eneral) M(ayhem) TO 9,000rpm
Yeah, I was talking MAX piston speed. It's basically a function of stoke and RPM... and depending on what you're trying to get out of the engine, the max stroke you can/should run can be limiting.

Max piston speed comes in when the piston is nearing TDC ... @ 73 degrees BTDC according to the Engine Tech site listed above (which sounds about right). Since you have the formula for the acceleration curve and know the point on it at which the piston reaches max speed it should be quite easy to calc max piston speed. I'll look at it and see what I can come up with. Maybe one of our Cal Tech or MIT compadres can whip that formula out real quick

Everyone has there opinion so im going to give you mine..
I have a high compression daily driver gsr and i used the BLOX stage 2 cams there basically the same as the skunk2 cams but cheaper and dammnnn..
Basically my boy is running the same cams in a mild cutom rocket and he has had no problems just with basic add ons...
But like others are saying the ITR or CTR cams are great also ive heard alot of good things about them but they are pricey..
But my BLOX cams kick ass when VTEC hits it hits hardddd.....

dont know iff anyone said it but ctr cams are pretty stout and if you look you can find them for cheap (some what) also youll be sticking with honda genuine parts my only suggestion is what ever cams you decide to use have some one check out your valve springs for the proper tension and always replace retainers
