An LS tranny over a GSR tranny is a downgrade in every sense of the word.

okay first off, i was going all motor so i had the type r pistons in..and the gsr tranny...i want longer gears for the turbo...so i put my LS tranny back in...how does that not add up....yeah the gsr goes through quicker gears but in the long run wider transmission LS is better for turbo cars because they stay in full boost longer...

except not.

short gears will always help, that is all a myth about the LS gears being better.

now as for the LS pistons, i can understand wanting to downgrade compression, but honestly, if you went through all the work of breaking down the block again why didn't you use forged pistons, or at wait until you have the money for them?

with forged internals you'll be able to push way more boost without the fear of accidentally detonating and finding your rotating assembly at the bottom of your oil pan.

see this car is my daily driver...and honestly i didnt like how i had to drive around in 5th gear all the time to save gas...the LS tranny is just my preference...ya no...I just wanna throw the turbo on and then save up to start building the engine...but yeah the type r compression for the pistons was just to much...thats y i put the LS back in....the car isnt turboed yet..i have everything....the only thing im alittle worried about is that my intercooler is 3.5" thick and i no i have to shave the some of the bumper but even after that i hope it still fits....

excuse me for saying this, but i don't think you are doing enough reasearch to have this car as your DD. somethign tells me you are going to hit some serious down-time and are going to need to find another ride.

you should have kept the gsr tranny and swapped out the final drive ratio, thus giving you the ls top speed... and yes... you really should have set out a plan before you just jumped into your engine...

I ment when you bought the type R pistons and all... and opting to reuse the stock pistons, with wear already on them... the money spent on the R pistons could have gone towards a low compression forged bottom end, making it possible for a higher psi

well the problem is that first you did a major head swap-- you upgraded everything for N/A and then you said "lets go turbo"

so you replaced your pistons with your old ones, took out the transmission and replaced it with the old one.

i forgive the transmisison because i do understand how annoying it is to cruise on the highway at 8k. especially when most of the time you barely see the end of third gear.

it jsut doesnt make sense to me why you wouldnt go forged on teh pistons.. esspecially if you wnat this engine to be solid-- it just seems some of the things you are saying like "staying in boost longer" is something a noob would say about the subject.

granted that you do know something being able to rebuild and engine more than once successfully. i just don't know if you have done the reasearch that you would ne to make this thing relaly reliable. thats all i'm saying.
