steering rack replacement
ok so my new steering rack should be here in a day or two, and i really havent a clue how to go about this, but i figure i'll just keep taking shit apart until i figure it out. i got some article off of importnut.com about swapping an integra steering rack into a civic, do you guys think this will be enough for some rough guidance on this procedure? just wondering if anyones ever attempted this and had any imput for me.
thanks guys,
wes

if you have doubts or can get an answer, get a helms manual maybe it'll show you how to do it in there but as far as the teg/civic swap, it won't be the "same" but it'll have the same concept
well i honestly dont know if its the same or not. i just did mine on my 95 civic. The motor is out...so it was easier.
take the cover off in the car. 2 10 mm bolts holding a dual universal swivel connector. slide it out. 2 17mm bolts on the drivers side, 2 14 mm bolts on the passenger side. dissconnect all lines, and 2 tie rods.
I literally swapped from power to manual in a half hour. Its easy. But you have to get creative in order to not drop the sub frame brace.

yeah it ended up goin pretty well for me. it was about 15 hours worth of work over 2 days and that includes fuckin around. some of that being the need i had to cut every exhaust bolt off and replace them because they were rusted beyond the point of recognition. as for the rack itself, the job isnt to diffucult, just alot of shit that needs to be taken apart to get to it, and my engine was still in (suspended by a come-a-long cabled to the ceiling). the rack is basically the furthest thing up in the car so really eveything else under the front of the car needs to come out to get to it. drop the lower control arms and tie rods, exhaust, shift linkage, sway bar, then hoist the engine, disconnect it from the point where it connects to subframe, then drop the subframe out of the car which will have the steering rack mounted in it, then just reverse the process. it really wasnt too hard at all. if anybody ever has to do this and has any qustions about it just pm me about itand i'll see if i can be of help. hell, if your anywhere in upstate ny and have a garage i'd even come out and help.
