Clutch Master Cylinder (need helk)
I just replaced the clutch slave cylinder and before I bleed the lines I double checked the master cylinder. My clutch lost pressure instantly back in November and now that winter is over I want the car out of the garage and back on the road.
I don't see any instances of fluid inside or around the master cylinder against the firewall. Is it normall to have grease showing like it is in the pic and somebehind the upper section of the clutch pedal?
Just wanted to see if this was normal so I don't waste time and the new brake fluid I bought.
Thanks.

thanks for the pic... it's normal to have grease there... but where you don't want any liquid (grease ok) is behind the black dust boot right there... make sure that's clear and your fine
I'm going to bleed the lines tonight and hopefully the slave cylinder was the only problem. Just wanted to make sure it seemed ok so I don't waste time and money.
Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Just an FYI, your clutch master cyl is bad. That grease shoud NOT be there.
They Master and slave "should" be replaced together although my slave was still in decent condition.
Think of it as peace of mind.
PS m. Cyl at autozone is only like 40 bucks.

I bled the lines last night with new fluid but without replacing the clutch master cylinder and everything seems fine. Granted I have not driven the car in 5 months, the pedal now hold pressure and runs just fine.
The slave cylinder went in about 2-3 pumps, will the master cylinder slowly die or is it just as sudden? There have been 2 different responses to whether the clutch master cylinder is bad or good.
Thanks.

It will lose pressure eventually, contaminate the fluid which in turn will ruin the seals in the new slave cyl..
Hence the change both at the same time.
Don't be a cheapass when it comes to "FIXING" your car. You dump money on mods and don't bother to maintain basic repairs.
It boggles my mind why people are like this.
Thanks for the follow up, this is my first time repairing any cluth related issue so I was asking for a few opinions. As you can see from the replies they do vary.
I'm far from the type that spends money on mods and lacks in maintenance.
