If you take the head off yourself... disassemble, hot tank, spec and reassemble was $235 at my local machine shop. Plus it will cost a hundred bucks or so for some new valves.

If you don't take the head off yourself... $600 to take the head off, $235 to do the head, and then valves, and then probably $200 to put the head back on.

If the dealer finds out that the engine was over-revved...they won't cover it because their warranty doesn't cover driver's fault! When they take off the head they'll check the pistons for dents to see if you floated your valves, which is due to over-revving. I did that on my GSR and it ended up costing me 1500 at the dealer...might as well have a perfomance shop upgrade the valves and more internals like springs, retainers, etc. instead of going to a dealership. Or you can just tell your friend to take it to your local mechanic. Either way replace all the valves because they come with the kit anyway and get a valve adjustment. Good Luck!

the dealershpi is more than likely not going to cover it under warranty. $1500 is around how much the dealership is going to cost you. you can peasily get it under 1000 from a local ship, but its up to him. expensive mistake. You can take it to the dealership and tell them you dunno whats going on with the car, they'll do a compression test on only, they say they will have to take off the head to figure out whats wrong and IF they see that its wasn't driver error then they will do under warranty if not they will charge you.

how bad did he bend his valves?? is he stalling at idle sometimes or has areally low idle. and is there a loud clicking sound too?

well, i don' t think the valves are too bad. He can still drive it normally. a small clicking noise on idle i believe and when in idle, the rpms go down to like 400-500 and them goes back to normal constantly when the car is stopped. Took it to a mechanic to look at the electronic diagnotics? and he said that the engine reported a misfire in cylinders 1 & 4.

That is exactly whats wrong with my car.... I took it to the dealer today and they said its misfiring...but i dont know what cylinders...(low bouncy idle and clicking) the whole thing. Im going back on Wed. and leaving it there to see what the problem is...Pretty much im screwed because Im a poor college student and I will not have the money to fix my car...I dont know what im going to do.

You can usually tell which cylinders are misfiring with a simple test... let the engine cool first enough that you can grab the headers. Then star the engine and let it warm up. After the engine is warmed up a little while drop a few drops of water on each exhaust port of the header to see if the water boils. The ones that don't are the cylinders that are misfiring. Good Luck guys!!!!
