Default 99 Hatch Struts Broken!

My hatch struts are broken! It was just replaced when I bought it in the Fall and now it's broken again.

I just wondering from everyone if when they open their trunk release does the struts bring the heavy hatch up to the top completly or does it stay at the bottom position.

When the struts were working I always needed to hands. One hand to turn the key to the open position and hold it there, and the other hand had to push the hatch up so it could get a "boost" to hold itself up all the way.

Does anybody think this is a problem or is it normal when my struts were actually "working"?

Any comments on this matter would be great!

that hatch is way to heavy for those lillte shocks. those shocks are made to assist the hatch from poping up a little bit...then to hold it at the most uptop position. they arent like automatic hatch openers or anything.

The struts were never intended to lift the hatch from a closed position.
They are there solely to keep the hatch off of your forehead.

Default No doubt

That hatch is damn heavy when the struts don't work..

My hatch has a unlock switch that unlocks the hatch. Its kind of useless because to open the hatch i have to insert the key.

Anyone have the same problem.

I have a lever/ buttom too to unlock it but the hatch at the back it too heavy to just pop off of the lock.

Does your hatch pop up when you press on the lever?

So what your saying is you press the buttom/lever and you just assist bring up the hatch with you hand.

For me the lever doesn't have any use. Even though the hatch is unlock I can't just pull it up. Yes it's unlocked. Maybe the struts arent strong enough to push it pass the lock.

Anways my point is I must insert my key and turn it to the right and hold it there. Then I have to use my other free hand to lift up the hatch.

Do you think I have a lock problem as well?
