94 Integra Vtec

When I start the car the idle will start at 2rpm and go to 3rpm. It will bounce back and forth until the car is warmed up. Once it’s warmed up the rpm will drop and bounce from 1rmp to 2rmp. Some times it will stay steady at 21/2 rpms. Most of the time it’s bouncing back and forth. I brought it to have a diagnostic check done. I was told it was my IAC system or valve what ever you want to call it. So I bought a brand new oem part, put it on and nothing. I checked the wiring to see if its getting power. The wiring is good. So I think. I started to check some of the other wiring to see if they had power going to them. The only one I didn’t get was the Intake air temp sensor. My test light didn’t light up. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to.

Well any thoughts of the idle issue?????

I had the same prob. I put a new one on and it did the same thing. The Iac has 2 parts to it. The valve and the thermostat on the bottom of the throttle body. I had to disassemble it [the thermostat] and clean it. there is a threaded plastic piece inside that needs to be right. youll see what I mean. It sucks because you very seldom have to buy one. just clean it and they usually work.

 

Ok. I’m assuming that your talking about the FITV. That’s what 91civicb16a said. So I took it apart, how do I know if that plastic piece is right? I sprayed it down with some carb cleaner. Is it supposed to be floppin around in side there? After sprayin with carb cleaner I put it back on and nothing. Its still doing the same thing. Maybe I didn’t clean it good enough.

 

maybe. if i remember right it should slide freely. if there are burs on it it wont move. the object is to let the coolant flow through.

 

I’m not sure but could the TB Sensor be bad. I didn’t mention when the car is at idle it sounds like the intake is stuck open. I so a post that said to check the TB Gasket. anyone, what do you think about that?

I had the same problem and I just changed the throttle body all together, idle went away.

 

sounds like IACV

 

how dirty was icv? I was told by a friend that works for the acura dealer that if you are not running 93 oct it will clog the mesh vet on the icv. You should have got a maintence req light. If you drive it more the cel will then come on. All of those lights should come on when you first start up the car and then go off if there is nothing wrong.
You can check the icv to see if it is good by useing a ohm meter. Connect the black lead of the meter to the center pin and read the resistance to the other two pins and they should ready about 16 to 28 ohms.
If the car is an automatic, it also has the fast idle thermo valve. that could be another problem.

I agree that it may be the FITV. Make sure the coolant lines are hooked up to the throttle body. Some ppl do a throttle body coolant bypass and then see this happen.
