Yeah the state ref is the BAR...bureau of air resourses. "If you get busted" refers to having non smog legal parts on your car, and getting busted for them by the cops.

thanks for all the great info. as for now my JDM GSR motor isn't running yet. gotta find a JDM GSR ECU (I still dont understand why, cuz that's what my mechanic said) I doubt at its current state it will pass smog.

later i will need the following:
-new cat cuz i tore up the honeycomb inside
-USDM oil pump for the crank sensor
-VTEC Oil Pressure Solenoid Assembly
-EVAP purge
-Secondary O2 Sensor?

if anyone has these please Please PLEASE pm me. ESP. a JDM GSR ECU w/ obd2

be careful trying to smog with a JDM OBD2 motor. it's not going to recognize the proper smog devices required in California. for example your JDM gsr doesn't have the right crank angle sensor (US has it installed against the crank AND in the distrubutor. JDM only has the CAS in the distributor.) most smog stations are required to check if all sensors are in a ready state through the ECU. JDM ECU will give the wrong feedback and you will instantly fail wether or not your car passes the sniffer.

I have heard that Florida no longer has smog emissions.

If that is the case, boost away!

Bureau of Automotive Repair B.A.R. they are the techs. set up at alomost any local college campus teaching soon to be SMOG Techs. the "right" way to SMOG a car. The state contracts through them to specifically SMOG a car from A-Z when you get "busted" or pulled over and cited for what a Police Officer may believe to be illegal. If you have CARB numbers you should be ok. But if a cop really wanted to be a dick, he could still send you to the B.A.R. referree and have the ref. make sure your CARB numbers are for your model car "and" have it smogged just to make sure...It helps to keep a little portfolio in your car of all your parts and their legalty disclaimers, along with printouts sheets from the Califormia emissions website w/the carbnumbers you have that are issued for your car, so if a cop suspects a crossed referenced part you can show him the prinout and be on your way. If he still insist you go,to BAR you can fight it at that time and most likely win.

Who cares about smog station legality, really guys, all the stuff you do your car is mostly illegal anyways why do you care about sticking with CARB laws? My buddy's CRX has been passing since 2001 now with not a problem and the same guy is still working at the same smog station and passing him.

No one gets in trouble, Ive never heard of anyone getting "caught" or getting in trouble for this. Its not hurting anything or anyone, and the effect it has on the environment? Please gimme a break, cars create under 5% of the worlds pollution, what needs to be controlled is factories and Industries.

Great. More "armchair quarterbacking" from someone who does not live in California.

This thread is here to solve people's problems and answer legal questions.
It is not here for people to voice their anti-smog tirades.

If you think the CA laws are easy to ignore, you clearly have not lived in California. If you want to be informed about our laws, go the California Air Resources Board website at www.arb.ca.gov.

Until then, go to The Basement forum and claim that there is no smog problem. Your argument will be ripped to shreds.

If you want to debate with me, fine.
Just don't do it in this thread.

Default sucky smog test...

Well, The time has come to bring my acura into the TEST only place, and during the visual inspection he saw my AEM Intake and freaked out but I showed him the CARB # and then he was like "OK, I see". Then he looked at my header and then was like wheres the carb # for that? and I didnt know what to tellem since mine is a cheapy from ebay with no carb #.

Anyways yes theres a question within this, What is the difference between my chrome headers and the cast iron honda manifold that WAS on my acura?

There isnt a Carb # on the stock manifold why do they want one for the aftermarket?

EDIT: Oh ya, I Didn't have my old manifold so I had to get one sent from a friend in washington...but mainly I just wanted to know why the hassle.

P.s. I live in california
