Default Lsvtec Vs Type R

Can anyone tell me what the think of how Ls-Vtec compares to a Type-r? I'm thinking of swapping and then adding boost which do you think would be better to boost?

Any opinions/information would be greatly appreciated.

Also which B series tranny has the best gears? I think type-r is the shortest right?

type-r of course thats why its type R in less you want to totally custom build your engine from pistons to cams then it would be a waste of money to take out performane parts from type r engie (vtec is 170HP) well (type r vtec is 195HP) umm don't quate me thought I could be wrong but i'm pretty postive about this type r tranny would be best or gsr tranny would do it depends on your budget

Save yourself a lot of money and just boost the motor you have. A type-r motor is expensive by itself plus making the swap

You understand wrong

Actually, if your going to boost, the type-r would be WORSE then the LS, just because of the added compression.

If you wanted the best bang for your buck you would get a Type-R head, then add an LS block, which would give a great flowing valvetrain + a good boost block.

And the SiR tranny is geared the shortest, the Type-R tranny is good for its F/D though

On an added note, the Type-R motors take boost GREAT... if you follow up with extensive tuning and don't have the need to run high boost.

The higher compression just gives you a smaller window for screwup in tuning

Doh *edit* Another thing, I think the SiR and the ITR trannys are geared identically, except the ITR tranny has a different final drive and the fact that it is priced way differently If I were you I would just run an SiR.

Thanks alpha. i've heard the B16A head is typical for an ls/vtec combo, does the ITR head go on the same? Also anyone have any specs on this combo, HP and compression?
thanks guys

you can run 8-10 safely if you're careful on a stock LS.

All the DOHC B-series heads will bolt on, however with BOTH swaps you will need to run oil lines.

Generally I would suggest going with a B16A(2) head or a ITR head, because the SiR-II heads ARENT over 10 years old, and the ITR heads are relatively new.

The B16 head is a general statement, B16's have been around for a long time, I would want a newer one

6 pounds is safe, 10-12 psi track boost is safe with good tuning.

As for what turbo... you need to figure out what kinda horsepower you want for anyone to make suggestions, and what kinda internals you are going to be doing.

I am doing a CR/VTEC setup, and running a SC61 turbo. I don't suggest the SC61 unless your motor has the displacement/c.r to spool it, if not itll spool way high and be useless

For something with small amounts of boost and not too high HP numbers, like what it sounds like your doing, I suggest a T3/T4 hybrid or T04E or something around those lines
