Default air intake temperature sensor

I just bought a performance resistor that hooks into the ait sensor plug and it is supposed give me at least an 18hp gain but i'm not sure if i have it hooked up right. the original ait plug has three prongs on it.... one with a yellow wire, one with a red wire, and one with a yellow wire.... right now i have the performance resistor hooked to yellow and red. Is this right or wrong? I have noticed increased power as well as higher idle..... but my check engine light is on. The guy i bought it from said it may take 2 weeks for the check engine light to go off..... is he right?

Thanks 4 any input!!

Do not do that, you are going to ruin your engine. It's causing the ecu to think that cold air is going into the engine by changing the resistance valve that the ecu wants to look at. This will tell the ecu to dump more fuel. It's a waste of money and I highly do not recommend it. One your Ecu will try to fix the extra fuel by leaning it out. Two, if the resistance value is beyond the ecu capabilities to adjust the fuel trim, long term driving in rich conditions will ruin your CAT and also ruin you O2(s) and resulting in failing Smog checks. The money would have been well spent on something else.

It is a bad thing to put that on. It's been posted Before but to let you know it will destroy"DESTROY" your engine in less than a year.

How much did you pay for that thing? You could have went to radio shack and paid less than $1 and you could have done the same thing to 5 cars.

I like so many other people heard the myth of the resistor in the AIT sensor and the added horsepower. Instead of oredering it off of EBAY like i was going to do i went to radio shack and got 5 for a dollar. After i put it in my car seemed to have a slight increase in power but 2 miles down the road my check engine light came on. I removed the resistor and plugged the AIT back in. Now though my car's check engine light will come on whenever i drive for a while. It goes off when i turn my car off and crank it back up, but then comes on again. Could this be a result of failing smog checks? Should i just unhook the battery cables and try to let the cpu reset or have i caused a greater problem? I only had the resistor in for a matter of hours.
