Default What causes idle to drop?

My car has 200k Km. There's no modification's done to anything(not yet). It idles around, what looks like 800, or it could be between 700 and 800. But just today, I was parked in front of my friends house, with the engine running, and just sitting in the car chatting with my two friends in the car; while all of a sudden, the RPM needle drops below 700 just a bit and I can feel the car(the engine) chug a little.

Just that little thing ruined my whole night; I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I called the night off and went home. I'm letting my baby sleep tonight.

So what could have caused this? Could stalling the car have an effect(while learning to drive standard, I stalled well over 30 times. I never stall anymore though.) I need some answers. I just bought this car, I don't want it to die so soon. I love my baby :crying:

i think the crank angle sensor in the distributor is what controls the idle. you should think about getting new plugs wires/cap/rotor since you just bought the car.

My car does the same thing, I wouldn't be too concerned, every car I've ever seen does it, in fact, the teg has the steadiest idle of any car I've ever been in

Mine has a loose battery cable. Thats what was messing w/ mine. The heat also doesnt help. 90+ = roving idle.

I would suggest doing the easiest thing first, clean the throttle body.

Marty.

How would I go about cleaning the throttle body? Is there a website that gives steps?

I'm friends with one of the guys from the Acura dealership, he said radiator fluid levels and/or vacuum lines can affect idle.

Maybe this is terribly obvious, but did you have the A/C on? I'm sure (?) we all know that when the condensor kicks in, the tach always drops. (And the car might start to chug/vibrate a little)

before going through the trouble of cleaning the throttle body. Try replacing your sparkplugs. I had the same problem. I'd be sitting at a stop light and everyonce in a while the idle would just drop to like 300 and then go right back up. After i got the new plugs i haven't noticed it do it at all. it wouldn't hurt to try...
