Default is it a good buy?

I have a friend who is thinking of buying a '90 or '91 integra from her friend. she says the interior is really nice, but it has 220k. the current owner has had it for 10 months, but mentioned to her that there were no major fixes but an axle. Isn't the axle pretty serious? Well, she needs something that will get her around and not much of a money sucker. will this car require some fixes in the near future? Is it worth it?

Me personally would say with 220K miles and no major fixes means that when she gets it shes gonna have alot of major fixes now if she gets it for like 500 bucks or less then i sy its a steal

I don't think i'd be buying a car that old unless you didn't have money for something newer & needed something to get around

i have a 91 integra with 151K miles. alothough its not as much miles as this one, i have had NO problems with the motor, aside from axles. Although, with 220K miles, id get a nice motor swap, and you should be set, maybe a paint job if rust becomes a prob.

how much would an early '90's civic, average miles and wear go for? that might be a better, more dependable ride

No, if you know how to fix it yourself. It's not that difficult.

It really depends on year and model. a 90-91, let's say a DX, will go around $2k. A 92-95, let's also assume DX, will go $3k or more. They are slower and uglier then the Integra, too.

First of all, it depends on how it was taken care of. From my personal experience, I wouldn't say it's a money sucker. Things tend to wear out, though. Things I replaced on my 90 from 180-217k miles: Battery, alternator, tires, exhaust pipe B, muffler, cam end plug, timing belt, water pump, brake rotors and pads, front brake calipers (one was seized), dash bulbs, main fuel relay, fan timing control unit (faulty one caused the radiator fan to run all night, thus draining the battery), a headlight and several headlight bulbs of course. If you do the work yourself and buy the parts online then it can be fairly inexpensive and the car is a lot of fun.

Cuck a sock!!!!!!

Sounds like someone is trying to cut their losses and get as much money back out of the car as they can. You know what they say, when you buy a car with 100k miles, you're buying someone else's problems. I got my CRX at 158k and promptly replaced the clutch, rear main seal, both axles and the complete exhaust from the converter back. Shortly thereafter I replaced the master cylinder and the front pads and rotors. Not a big deal to me, because I did all the work myself and now have a dependable little car. I got it for $260 because it also "needed and axle". Basically the guy just wanted his money back for the brand new radiator he had just had put in the car. If you buy a car with high miles, expect there to be a lot of parts that are either worn out or just about to go.
