Default SRI or K&N

yes yes yes, i know that there have been hundreds of intake threads on HAN, but what's one more? i have been searching like mad on HAN, deciding whether or not i should out a SRI in my gsr, or just keep the stock air box and put a K&N filter in it. I was leanin towards the SRI, but then as i read more posts, some people say i may even lose some power, and then i start leaning towards the SRI again as i read some more. So what should i do, K&N or an AEM SRI?

sorry to hijack ur thread but im new to the boards and was hopin to get an answer, and for some readon i cant make new threads...but anywayz. my previous car was a neon, i added an iceman intake to it. i could definitley feel the power gain and it sounded/looked awesome. but i hardly ever hear of it on hondas/acuras. is there a reason for this? im in high school and ive got some money to add some bolt ons. i was just wondering if the iceman was a bad idea for the integra?

Ummm... The only problem is that SRIs will lose power in traffic style settings. Since they draw air from the engine bay, if you're moving very slowly or not at all, you engine will suck up a lot of hot air. On the other hand, while they're on the move, they will give you a small boost in power, but more importantly, increased throttle response. SRIs also generate more peak power than CAIs, but don't have as much midrange torque.

In my opinion, SRIs are more practical. Not only that, there is nil chance of hydrolock, and if you do hydrolock a SRI, that would be the least of your troubles

And about the Iceman. They're one of the best intakes on the market, but you don't hear kids bragging about them because they're very expensive and not flashy at all. Besides that though, they're great CAIs with very good throttle response, an engine replacement guarantee against hydrolock, and generate a reasonable amount of power. If I had more money, I'd have that instead of the AEM.

The only thing I don't like about the Icemans is that they use foam filter elements, and I've always been a fan of oiled cotton.

No idea... but I'd venture to guess anything above 5-10 MPH

So the 100 bucks for a AEM SRI is more worth the 65 bucks for a new K&N filter?

Dunno... found some guy on eBay that happened to be local and a AEM authorized dealer. Buy it now was $95, but I bid $85 and won. And yes, for a GS-R, and blue.

Keep you eyes open... for deals like this
