I suspect good CV boots covering up the problem in the axle. My CV boots were change not too long ago, so any visual inspection of the CV boots would reveal no problem. But I think the last time they changed the CV boots for me, they didn't discover the problems in the axle/joints, therefore the axle was not fixed.

i had a broken axle about 3 months ago. Car will go in gear but won't drive. Symptoms are very similar to blown tranny.

This is one of the things that I suspect. The strange thing it is not always there. The symptoms usually appear when the car is all warm up, like after half an hour of driving.

My cv is blown, but the boots are fine and there is no leaks, and i get a clicking noise under heavy acceleration when the car is cold
