Default Which performance mods?

Hello all! This is my first post, so be gentle.

I picked up a 1995 GS-R this past weekend. My boyfriend is a mechanic at the dealership, so we picked up the car at a VERY generous price, and they're allowing us to finance almost $2000 of aftermarket parts (at wholesale) into the price of the car.

I would like to spend the money on performance. However, they don't carry superchargers and the only turbo kit they carry is $3250 wholesale. We already ordered the AEM V2 intake from somewhere else, and we already have a nitrous system that can go on the car once we take it off our Cavalier.

Here are the parts we have picked out so far:
AEM underdrive pulleys
DCSport 4:2:1 header
DCSport Short Shifter
Apex M1 cat-back exhaust

What other performance type parts would you guys recommend? The stuff we have picked out so far will only be about $750, so we have a ways to go.

Thanks in advance for your time. Being a moderator at one board and an admin at another (obviously not car-related boards lol), I know how aggravating newbies can be.

That cav's run nitrous for a couple years now... it's a fun lil car, but will be show-only after this summer.

Haha yeah I'm sure you're right about the exhaust. Sorry. h: Hey, it's the best I could do to type out whatever my boyfriend was telling me on the phone. It's all Greek to me, yanno?

Thanks for the advice on the cams... I'll look into that this afternoon.

The pulleys are CRAP! Don't bother with them. I agree with the cams if you're going to keep it N/A. Also, the V2 intake is a gimmic, the V1 works just as well, but beware of water. h:

I also recommend the 4-1 header over the 4-2-1. Congrats on the car.

Welcome to HAN. :wavey:

Hey thanks!

On searching the different boards, I found that there seems to be a lot of disagreement about 4:1 vs 4:2:1. From what I understand (which, admittedly, isn't much), one offers more high-end and one offers more low-end power. Yes?

Cams. Once you settle on a good intake/exhaust line, if you plan to stay N/A, get a good set of cams, springs, and retainers. Say a Crower 63402 and matching spring kit.

Aftermarket rods and pistons would also be fun, kick the compression up to 11.5:1 or so.

A fuel controller and VTEC controller would be nice at this point, an Apex'i V-AFC will do both functions nicely.

I think I already blew your budget by... a lot of money. Oh well.

Note, I don't care much for suspension. Fast now, turn later.

Reviewing the mods in my signature, my most enjoyable mods were:
- AEM CAI - great sound
- lowering springs/strut suspension package - I'm happy with my Tokico drop (1.5"), others drop farther - improved handling tremendously
- DIY trunk brace - tightened the back end, really helped reduce understeer
- Silverstar 9005 conversion - lots more light on the road

You're already doing the catback exhaust and header; might as well drop in a high-flow cat while you're down there.

i gotta agree on the 9005 conversion, driving outside of well lit areas/cities sucks with out them... it made my car driveable after dark.

as for the understeer, i think i have a bigger oversteer problem, i have thrown my car sideways a couple of times

oversteer? damn... I'm tryin to get rid of the understeer on mine by fooling with the tire pressure. I wanna drift sooo bad. the 9005 conversion is a must. oh, and GET SUSPENSION. I lost interest in my car before I put suspension on it and lowered it. It's soo much fun now.
