Which performance mods?
Hmmm...here's what I would do:
--Apex'i N1-Great sound, not too bad on the price.
--AEM V1-just as good as the V2, with the option of being able to add a Bypass valve
--DC 4-1 header-Can't say I minded the extra few ponies I gained over the 4-2-1 design I was rocking previously.
--Carsound cat-A must if you do the header.
--ITR cams-Cheap off eBay, and a decent gain.
--Skunk2 intake manifold-for $300 shipped you cannot go wrong.
$500 -N1
$230 -AEM intake
$350 -DC header
$100 -Carsound
$250 -Cams
$300 -IM
------------
$1730 -total
-Note, some of these are Retail prices, so you'll prolly do way better. With the rest of the $$, buy a set of Neuspeed Sports, KYB AGX's, and an Ingalls camber kit and you'll be DAMN happy.
PS: the shifter can come later and the pulleys suck.
