Which gauges?
Actually the autometer air/fuel ratio gauges with all the flashing lights is so inaccurate it's sick. It's got to be one of the most worthless gauges you can get, other than looking pretty kool. Also, Autometer isn't the only good gauge company.
Look into EDO, which has been making Ferrari, Lambo, Benz and Beemer gauges for like the past 50-60 years, not to mention are ussualy on the up and up on technology. Also look into Defi, they make really sweet gauges, just a little on the pricey side. Those are really the only two gauges I would recomend other than autometer.
Though I deifinitely agree, oil pressure is crutial, oil temp, water temp, and you may even want to do fuel pressure if you plan to spray. If you're looking to play with the fuel a little, an EGT is a must or a wide band if you have deep pockets, FJO and Motech both make really nice ones.

AJ, while I agree with you that Autometer is not the only good manufacturer of gauges, VDO being another top notch supplier, it's hard to argue that all NASCAR, Trans-Am, SVWC and sportprototypes etc almost use these gauges exclusively.
Their history is built on accurate and reliable sending units.....as for the A/F meters, again I'll agree with you, but remember that guage is also only street used and is approx at best. You know that a properly tuned race car is tuned on the dyno...the A/F meter is just a heads up.
Last comment.....on my GT-3 CRX race car, which runs on spherical bearings ( no rubber bushings), the only gauges that withstand the vibrations for more than 1 season are Autometer. BTW, this car has been in service since 1986.

Really??? We run out CTR race car on a variety of different gauges, and ours as well runs on all spherical bearings with the exception of the trailing arm bushings, which we replaced with urethane, and in addition runs straight pipe with just a small resinator, so you can imagine how much vibration we get. For the most part, almost all of our gauges are mechanical any ways, I find that almost all gauges that are digital or electrical are somewhat lagy and frequently inacurate, regardless of the manufacturer.
Any way, Later,
