If you are pulling the stock B18A and dropping in another B18A/B or B20B/Z, an average weekend mechanic can do it no sweat. It's not hard, just time consuming.

I see, now the difficult part is finding a "weekend mechanic" and a price quote. Any ideas? Has anyone here ever "paid" someone else to do such a thing?

I mean, with a friend's help you can most likely do it yourself over a weekend.

I have access to a truck and a tow thingy(forgive my ignroance), so i can get it to my house pretty easily.

I also have access to an engine hoist.

I also recently d/l a pdf guide on engine removal and installation.

Here is the link Engine Removal/Installation Guide

If anyone has done this, does this guide tell me in detail everything? Does it leave out anything thats really important? Thx!

That pdf is straight out of the Helms manual so it should be pretty comprehensive.

Id say $800. Then when you get the car, pull the engine, put a new head gasket, water pump and timing belt in it. along with getting the radiator flushed and then check the thermostat.

I pulled an engine out and put an identical engine back into my car in about 2 days. Acutally only working on it for about 16 hours cummulative.

I dont think it was driven too far in overheated stage. Visually the engine looks fine, its when he started it was when he heard loud sounds. Why would i need to pull the engine to change the head gasket and water pump? U can do that with it in(except for the water pump, you just gotta unbolt an engine mount).

That seems extremely quick. Did you have experience pulling engines before you did that job? I havn't done it yet, I do however do minor preventive maintenance.

Thanks!
