Default Changing tranny fluid...

I had the front end jacked, and all of the tranny fluid came running back out as I was filling it up. I couldn't see where it was leaking from, was it because the car was jacked up? Also, I unscrewed some bolt on the transmission, and it had white stuff on it, thinking it was the drain plug. When I realized it was wrong, I put it back. Do I have to put some RTV on it or something? Once I had it in all the way, it kept turning as I would turn the wrench. Bad day for me, thanks for any help.

how did you drain and fill the tranny? you drain the tranny, you have to take out the drain plug, its the bolt that you pop a rachet onto. and to fill, you have to take a funnel and fill through the dipstick hole. are you sure you arent missing the dipstick hole?

It's a manual transmission. I drained it by taking out the drain plug. Put the plug on. Took off the filler bolt, and put in MTF. Took at funnel attatchment and it all came out from somewhere.

I've found that it's actually much easier to fill the tranny by removing the fluid check bolt and then the speed sensor. You can use a long funnel and pour the fluid into the speed sensor hole.

Sounds like you took more bolts out than just the two you mentioned in your most recent post...

Where is it leaking from? Pics?

u probably took out the fill plug thinking it was the drain plug and with your car jacked up it all came out cause i checked mine and the oil came out........you have to change your oil on a flat surface and theres a plug that has a 3/4 inch rachet hole that u have to take out first.....with the acura/honda motors you have to fill it though the drain plug provided you cant get to the fill plug....thats about all i can say.....good luck with it

OK, I think I am ok. Since the car was jacked, it didn't let me pour in all the fluid that it should have taken. It wasn't actually leaking like I thought, just what looked like ALOT of excess coming back out. I have to go get one quart of GM synchromesh tomorrow to fill her up. Thanks for the help!

You should really be using Honda MTF.

A lot of folks have had good results from using GM Syncromesh. It's not like Honda MTF is a magical concoction nor are Honda gearboxes so sensitive to which oil is in them that they will spontaneously combust if a drop of anything other than Honda MTF touches them.

If you try to fill it too fast it will run all over, I have been very happy with the Redline MTL I have been using
