This is equally uneducated.

VTEC was set by honda for a number of reasons. Some of which were not about optimum power. THat said VTEC varies based on modifications. The most defining part when it comes to VTEC crossover is the Header. 4-2-1 2.5" collector, long tube headers change VTEC a lot. I won't speculate what that might be on a GSR but they change the crossover on a Type-R from 5800 to 3500-3800. It's all about area under the curve not about why Honda set it at a certain point.

it drops it 2,000 rpm???? i dont know but that sounds hard to believe. my point was that it is fine until you start doing things to your car, you dont just put it on to put it on.

i still dont see how opening a pipe will drop vtec engagement by 2000 rpm

I assure you 3500-3800 is a known RPM for certain headers. THat said an ORM JDM 4-1 or DC JDM 4-1 lower the VTEC point to 4800. This gives you a linear curve that produces the most area under the curve. The only place I could point you is the Type-R forum at Honda-Tech where we have beat the topic to death.

I can't say what the secondary intake runners woudl do to the tuning but I'd expect a GSR to behave similarly when using a similar header. Not positive though. I'd love to tune an NA GSR to see. I've tuned Type-R's with Power FC's and Hondats S200s and VAFCs but no GSRs I can think of. Did tune an Si but it is very similar to the R.

Trey...friend of mine will be tuning an NA GSR (most likely at Payn again) very soon. Hytech system header all the way back...should see some interesting results and crossover as well. I'll let you know what it does. I imagine it will be similar to an R on the crossover.

well when i put my dc sports 4-1 header on, it didn't change where it engaged. i was thinking of installing my AEM EMS and tuning that but the shop quoted me at about $240 for it all which isn't bad, but i'm just going to wait until i put my turbo on to tune it.

is it a JDM DC? Do you have a dyno plot we coudl see? The VTEC crossover will change to remove dips in the curve.

Definitely let me know how that goes on the GSR tuning. Payn = Dropspeed (Matt) doing the tuning?
