Default is this an Si?

Looking at a 97 Del Sol with 36,000 miles. It does not have any stickers on the back other than del sol. Engine code says VHN1.6VJGKEE. Any way to tell if this is an SI for sure?

Thanks,
Kirk

many ways to find out. www.teamdelsol.com FAQ for one

JHM is the start of the VIN number for VTEC models, so it's not a VTEC model.

Check the redline. Si models redline at 7200. VTEC models 8250 94/95 and 8000 for 96/97.

Engine block stamp. D16 Si model b16 VTEC model.

JHM is actually NOT for designating VTEC. If I'm remembering right, it simply means that it's a Honda manufactured car. EG2 should be the next few characters in the VIN, designating VTEC. EH6 = Si, EG2 = S

think the easiest way would be to see if it has power windows? (assuming you wanting Si or greater)

Thanks guys. It has a 7200 rpm redline, and the VIN has EH6 so it is an Si.

I appreciate the help as my old Del Sol links no longer worked.

All models of all years have power windows, because the back window needs to be power to go down. Power mirrors on the other hand is a different story.

check the VIN number sequence on the dash. If there's a "6" in the 6th digit (including the JMEH sequence) it's SHOULD be a D16Y7, if there's an "8" there it's an SOHC VTEC.

A simpler way to do this is to look a the engine block just above the exhause manifold. If it says "D16Y8" it's an SI. If it says "D16Y7" it's an S. A true VTEC should be pretty obvious (large flat valve cover and "B16A2" stamped on the block)

= these are for the 97 sequences=

I found out the hard way that my del sol was originally an S but someone had swapped a Y8 into it with GOD only knows how many miles..... it blew up last weekend...

Now it getting a 2000 GSR B16C1 this tuesday!
