Also, whats the difference between a short ram and a cold air intake? does short ram intake get screwed over by wet conditions too?

We hold these truths about intakes to be self-evident. Since I am feeling in a good mood I have hereby typed them out for you.
  • All intakes are essentially a pipe and an open-element filter.
  • Compared to stock, the filter allows more air through and the pipe allows for smoother flow.
  • A "short ram" intake is a short(er) pipe with a filter inside the engine bay.
  • A cold air intake is a longer pipe or pipes that places the filter somewhere it can suck in cold air.
  • It is harder for an engine to suck air through a longer pipe than a shorter one so throttle response is a bit quicker with a shorter pipe.
  • Cold air makes more horsepower than hot air because it has more oxygen molecules in it.
  • Since a CAI's filter is outside the engine bay it can get wet, which can suck water into the engine. If enough water gets into the engine it causes hydrolock and kills the motor. As long as you don't get the filter wet by driving through a puddle or something it should be fine.
  • Don't buy an AEM V2 CAI, it's a marketing gimmick and is no better than the original.

Who ever said anything about AEM.
J's racing short ram, comptech, mugen, and even the aem v2 seems to have promising numbers being shown, although i've never worked with an AEM v2.

It's no mystery, if you want to be able to squeeze all the power you can out of our little 4 cylinders, you can't go cheap on the boltons, or your gains will not be as sufficient.

Intake design is more than just saying, hey lets make a pipe....... and put a filter on the end! woooooo!

Sure go ahead, go cheap on your parts for say, i/h/c/e, don't get angry when the people who didn't cheap out have something like 20 or 30 more whp, and a better powerband.

I will have to agree, those cheap ass ebay ones for $15 are crap. Come on now, AEM and Injen are CARB legal.
