We hold these truths about intakes to be self-evident. Since I am feeling in a good mood I have hereby typed them out for you.
  • All intakes are essentially a pipe and an open-element filter.
  • Compared to stock, the filter allows more air through and the pipe allows for smoother flow.
  • A "short ram" intake is a short(er) pipe with a filter inside the engine bay.
  • A cold air intake is a longer pipe or pipes that places the filter somewhere it can suck in cold air.
  • It is harder for an engine to suck air through a longer pipe than a shorter one so throttle response is a bit quicker with a shorter pipe.
  • Cold air makes more horsepower than hot air because it has more oxygen molecules in it.
  • Since a CAI's filter is outside the engine bay it can get wet, which can suck water into the engine. If enough water gets into the engine it causes hydrolock and kills the motor. As long as you don't get the filter wet by driving through a puddle or something it should be fine.
  • Don't buy an AEM V2 CAI, it's a marketing gimmick and is no better than the original.
