Default Engine jerks when shifting gears

When I go from park to drive, my engine jerks pretty hard, and when I shift gears (any gears) I literally feel it. I popped the hood and checked it out and had a friend shift gears. It jumps like 1-3 inches when I shift. Is there something wrong with my engine mounts? Or is it loose and all I have to do is reseat the engine? If I have to replace them, how much does it run?

im guessing you have an automatic. your engine will jerk if its cold.. when it is fully warmed up it doenst jerk does it? cause when u start your car.. ur rpm ranges around 1.5 - 2.5k .. something above normal. when you switch it into gears, the gear is then engaged around that rpm.. and goes down instantly which creates the jerk.. its like haven ur car on neutral and pushen on the gas around 2-3k. then dropping it to drive..

Yeah, I have an auto. I always warm up my car for 5 mins till I feel the air coming in is warm since it's single digits weather here in Binghamton, NY. My engine idles at 1.5rpm, then goes up to 2.5rpm when I go into drive. I don't feel that type of jerk with any other car, and when I went to get an oil change at the local Jiffy, even the mechanic said my engine jerks pretty hard when shifted and said I should probably check that out. When I'm pulling out my driveway, it feels like I rear ended a car or something like that.

it is the shift linkage cable.... goes from the auto tranny shift button, and then to your transmission. if it isnt ligned up PERFECTLY, it will cause shift probs. check it out.
